About exposition

Expozice času The „Exposition of time” covers 10 rooms which are equipped mainly with exhibits from the collections of the Regional Museum in Olomouc, National Technical Museum in Prague, Jewish Museum in Prague and Shoemaking Museum in Zlín.

The scope of the “Exposition of time” is extensively broad and extends from space-time to atomic clock and modern methods of time measurement. This unique exhibition enables its visitors to explore the process of the birth of the universe and time as well as to discover the diversity of calendars and various conceptions of time in different cultures throughout centuries. It also describes the development of ancient clock and the principles of timekeeping.

The collection of the “Exposition of time” includes a wide range of items from mechanical clocks through electric and electronic clocks to special timekeeping devices such as clocks with unusual shapes, special versions of driving mechanisms, with extraordinary regulators of operation or atypical functions. Equally interesting is the fact that visitors also have the opportunity to see the clockmaker´s workshop.

Expozice času The fact that time is a theme which affects not only science and technology but also cultural and social values inspired the idea to comprise the fine arts and music as well. Visitors will also learn about the significant impact of time on medicine, fashion, and the whole society.

It is worth pointing out that the exhibition is accompanied by selected quotations illustrating the notion of time as some important personalities perceived it while numerous passages of poetry shift this seemingly technical subject into the sphere of imagination.

What makes the whole concept highly original is the implementation of the unique space management with the emphasis on artistic design, elements of stage design and free access to various effective educational aids rather than the traditional museum like conception.
